My keto diet

Since having children i have struggled with my weight, i've never been excessively overweight but before i had children i was always a size 8 and could eat whatever i wanted, so after having Ashton i had a smack in the face when i just put on more and more weight and had to start dieting.

So today i start my keto diet properly, i have done it for 2 weeks previously but was very lazy & did not weigh or keep track of what i was eating resulting in me cracking when we went away and giving into the carbs! During this time, once i had got over keto flu, i felt great, had so much more energy and never really got that hungry. But 2 days off it & back on the carbs i had the afternoon slumps again! Back constantly yawning and wanting to snack all the time. So now i am determined i am going to stick on it.

I now have done a bit more research than before "fail to prepare, prepare to fail" as they say!
I have downloaded the keto diet app which is available on itunes and google play. The app is brilliant, you input your meals into the food diary which then gives you a simple to understand view of your macros of the day. The app also has lots of delicious recipes which i will try out and show you each day.
You can also input your weight to keep track of your progress.

The last time i tried it i had a few headaches during the keto flu period, one which resulted in a migraine with me being violently sick! Now i realise i probably had them as i was not supplementing my electrolytes.
I have found hydro tablets in home bargains which supplement your electrolytes and magnesium. You just dissolve 1 tablet once a day in water, they are cherry flavoured and taste a bit like cherry 7 up.
I'm hoping by taking these i wont feel so rubbish the first few days.
I'm also hoping that by completing this diary everyday will give me the willpower to stick at it but also help anyone who would like to give it a go too by sharing meal inspiration, product reviews and any tips. I will also add any recipes i tried and loved.

Day 1.

So today i have weighed!! Like most people I find it easier to stick to a diet if i can see results, so i had to face my fear of the scales. I would love to lose 2 stone but i think my first target i'll set to 1. 
I went to home bargains to pick up a few bits and found the hydrate tablets 2x packs of 20 tablets for £2.00


Breakfast

For breakfast i had a chaffle with a slice of edam cheese. Its basically egg, cheese, almond flour and baking soda cooked in a waffle iron. I've only just found out about them and i loved it! I will make a recipe post as i go along with the keto recipes i enjoyed. I had a beanies cookie dough flavour coffee with 2 sweetners and 2 teaspoons of double cream.

Lunch

For lunch i wasn't really hungry, i just snacked on a slice of edam cheese and a pack of pork scratchings.

Dinner

I made a random dinner of various items out of the fridge, i put mushrooms, smoked bacon lardons with some salted butter and chopped garlic in a roasting bag, cooked for 45 mins then heated some double cream added mozzerella & spicy cheese then mixed it altogether... it turned out quite nice!



Snacks

I had 1 square of 74% cocoa dark chocolate

Drinks

Pepsi max & water

Because i want to lose a moderate amount of weight, based on my current weight, height, age, body fat the keto app works out your macros for the day, this is how much fat, carbs, protein & fibre you need to have a day.
My recommended macros are:
20 net grams carbs
89.1 grams protein
123 grams fat
I need to have a 24% deficit of calories per day which puts me at 1549 calories per day.
So today i am under on my carbs but over on my fat & calories, tomorrow i need to keep an eye on this and maybe up my protein!

Day 2.

This morning i felt a bit drained, i don't know whether it's because of the diet or because Theo is having a nightmare teething at the mo and didn't sleep very well. I took a hydro tablet which made me feel slightly better.

Breakfast

For breakfast i had a chaffle with a bit of butter and a beanies gingerbread coffee with a teaspoon of double cream.
 Lunch

Lunchtime i had a pack of roasted fridge raiders, a slice of gouda cheese and a handful of salted peanuts.

Dinner

I made 2 chaffles for a burger bun and grilled a beefburger with a slice of gouda cheese and a little bit of mayo.


Snacks

I didn't have any snacks today 😀

I think today i'm getting used to the keto diet app, i have started weighing everything to get a more accurate result. The app also has a barcode scanner so you can scan in any branded products.
My macros today are better than yesterday but today i have gone over on the protein 🙈


I'm finding it not too bad so far, i've found loads of different recipes, i think the versatility of the chaffle is going to help me out loads! I've joined a facebook group called #waffleho which has loads of different chaffle recipes, sweet & savoury. I've also found websites where you can order keto friendly snacks, so i'm gonna have to put an order in asap.

Day 3.


Today when i woke up i felt quite groggy, Theo only woke once through the night so i think it might of been a shock to the system! Once i got up and took a hydro tablet i did feel better.

Breakfast

I had a cinnamon chaffle with butter, it was lovely!
 I cannot wait to work through all the different chaffle recipes, you can even have pizza when using one as a base 😱 gamechanger!
My coffee this morning was beanies coconut with a teaspoon of double cream, i picked up a box of 12 different sachets to try all the flavours, they were £1.99 in home bargains.


Lunch

I don't tend to have lunch when i'm not in work, i mostly just snack. Today i had a boiled egg & slice of gouda cheese.

Dinner

Dinner was 2 lidl chilli and salt belly pork cooked in butter, broccoli & mushrooms seasoned with pink himalayan salt.

Snacks

After dinner i wanted something sweet so had a hartley's 10 cal raspberry jelly pot, i've seen some people have them with the anchor extra thick squirty cream on top so i'll have to pick some up when i do a food shop tomorrow.

I've ordered lots of goodies from skinny mixes as i am a sucker for a costa or starbucks, you can also add them to recipes so i'm looking forward to them arriving. If anyone wants to order i found a 10% off code SAVE10IG

My ketone strips have arrived today from  nkd living so i can start testing, according to the strips there are traces of ketones in my urine so fingers crossed tomorrow i will be in ketosis and my body will be a fat burning machine 😂😂

Day 4.


I woke up absolutely fine today, Theo woke earlier than usual after waking a few times through the night but i was suprisingly awake!!
Once i got up i took a hydro tablet, since taking these i haven't had any headaches like last time luckily so 🤞 it continues.

Breakfast

I wasn't really hungry so i only had a mug of beanies hazelnut coffee with a teaspoon of double cream.

Lunch
After being stuck in Aldi car park for 2 1/2 hours with a puncture it was gone 4 o'clock till i ate, i had a pepperami and a slice of gouda cheese with 2 slices of chorizo rolled up. I love that i don't get those hunger pangs with this diet 😀.

Dinner

I had a rump steak with steamed broccoli with mushrooms cooked in butter, i also made a sauce from double cream, butter, mozzarella and chilli cheese. It was delicious 😋

Snack
Hartleys 10 calorie raspberry jelly

I felt quite energetic today and in a good mood! 
When i tested it showed i am producing ketones 😀😀😀
I think i need to drink a bit more water though as i was constantly thirsty.

Day 5.


Breakfast

Today i was up early to go to work, didnt have time for breakfast so just had a beanies double chocolate coffee with a teaspoon of double cream and had 2 boiled eggs when i got to work.


Lunch

I had a salad, romaine lettuce, cucumber, spring onion, ham, chorizo with grated cheddar cheese and a little bit of mayo.

Dinner

I made a pizza chaffle, it was amazing!! I'll put the recipe on my recipe post.

Snacks

I have tested tonight and i am in ketosis, the energy has definitely kicked in and i am feeling more awake.
I can't wait to weigh Thursday, hopefully i will have a loss.



Day 6.


Today i am so tired!! Theo hardly slept last night and i could just about keep my eyes open going into work.

Breakfast

I didn't have time or energy to make anything for breakfast so just snacked kn a slice of cheese.

Lunch

Just had picky bits for lunch, some ham, chorizo, pepperoni and gouda.

Dinner

I made the nicest dinner!! We had cauliflower mash with butter Himalayan pink salt & pepper and pizza chicken. I'll put the recipe on my recipe post, it was delicious 😋😋



My macro's for today, i had very little carbs but gone way over on the protein. Only 1 more day until i can weigh 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞




Day 7.


The energy has really kicked in plus i'm never really that hungry, i love this diet!! Weigh day tomorrow, i'm really nervous because it just doesn't seem right to lose weight with what i've been eating, can you really lose weight by putting double cream in coffee & using real butter??? We shall see...

Breakfast

I made a gorgeous cinnamon churro chaffle, it 100% squashed my sweet craving 😍 i will put the recipe up very soon!

I really LOVE Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes, and guess what arrived this week 🙈🙈 i could of easily broke, but i found an alternative. Jordan's skinny mixes!!! Wow! They do every flavour you could think of and they are 0 calorie 0 sugar & 0 carbs. They even do a whipped foam topping in lots of different flavours 😍
I have the pumpkin caramel and birthday cake syrups and the birthday cake foam topping.
They are gorgeous, you can also use them in cooking so i'm looking forward to trying them out.

Lunch

For lunch i just had a pepperami because i was still quite full from my breakfast.

Dinner

I made a stir fry consisting of red onion, green pepper, mushrooms, spinach, beansprouts and chicken with a little bit of chinese 5 spice & garlic.

Day 8.

I have lost 5lb!!!!
I am so happy, 5lb's in the first week 🙈 i have never lost that much in a week before. I love this diet even more 😀😀😀😀😀

Breakfast

This morning i just had a coffee with skinny mixes pumpkin caramel syrup and a teaspoon of double cream. Think i was a bit nervous about weighing.

Lunch

To celebrate, i went for some lunch out with my friend, i had an all day breakfast of bacon, sausage, poached egg and extra mushrooms, Theo ate my toast and hash brown.

Dinner

I made a stir fry just for myself as Jamie was nights, i had some red onion, mushrooms, spinach, beansprouts, smoked sausage, chorizo with some garlic & chinese 5 spice.

Snack

Day 9.

Breakfast

I made the keto microwave bread, toasted it and covered in real butter 😋 it was a good substitute for bread, more like a muffin though! I had a poached egg on top.

Lunch

I didn't have any lunch as i wasn't really hungry after my breakfast and i was going out for dinner with friends.

Dinner

I'm gutted i didn't take photos of my dinner, i went out for dinner with the girls at a local spanish & italian. The food was so good i just ate it withiut taking any pictures 😭
To start i had meatballs covered in a little tomato sauce and mozzarella.
Mains i had 10 oz rump steak with grilled mixed peppers & mushrooms in a ricotta sauce, it was delicious.

Breakfast

Today i made a chocolate chaffle, it was absolutely beautiful!! I'll put the recipe up for anyone who wants to try, i had it with some clotted cream.



Lunch

I didn't feel like having anything for lunch, i was still full from my choc chaffle.

Dinner

I just fancied picky bit for dinner as Jamie was out, so i had some peanuts, chorizo, chilli sausage & cheese.



Day 11.

It was late afternoon before i realised i hadn't eaten a thing all day apart from a coffee with cream!! This diet is crazy, you just don't feel hungry.

Lunch

I had a pack of pork scratchings 😂

Dinner

I made some cauliflower cheese from steamed cauliflower, double cream, mozzarella, butter and cheddar cheese. Yes i am actually losing weight on this "diet".
